After nearly a year of exploring the Cadillac area I’ve seen lots of interesting places and done many new activities. One thing I haven’t really had a chance to do yet is go on a shopping spree!
Cadillac offers several styles of shopping and the Northern portion of Mitchell street offers fast food and big box stores, great for some power shopping. But now that I’m more familiar with the area I knew exactly where I needed to go to get the most out of this week’s adventure – DOWNTOWN!
Downtown Cadillac offers a wide variety of shopping experiences within a short walking distance (with lots of options to grab a bite to eat!). From vintage buildings hosting specialty shops, to galleries, salons and sidewalk cafes.
My first stop was the Mäksē Boutique on the northern end of the downtown shopping district. It is a nice new store in town that has lots of great ladies fashions! Kitty-corner from that is Blossom Boutique. It sounds like this has been a popular store in the area for quite some time now! Turns out they specialize in women’s fashions too so I didn’t find much for myself but if you are a girl looking for a wardrobe update, jeans, boots, shoes, jewelry, purses or accessories – you will find it here!
Just a few doors down I found a really interesting looking shop – The Ultimate Gift Shop! Lots of Michigan made products and gift ideas here! There were some tasty food items so I picked up a pie from Grand Traverse Pie Company, some smoked fish (yum!) and another Cadillac shirt for my closet!
Time to keep moving – the next stop on my stroll south was just across the street at Your Sister’s Closet – an upscale resale store. There was a large variety of items at great prices, I can see why people would like to shop here! Still haven’t found anything great for me yet, so I will keep going.
Next I came across a beautiful storefront on a corner lot – Serendipity! Lots of unique items in here and there’s even a lounge area with some complimentary beverages so I had to give that a try.
What’s next? The Sweet Shop of course, can’t shop downtown without stopping there! Lucky for me it is caramel apple season and I picked out a doozy – sea salt almond. Then I needed to stop at Horizon Books to check and see if they had a newly released book I was looking for, “The Art of Hibernation”. Hadn’t arrived yet, but hopefully soon! However, I did grab a coffee and find a good book on local trails!
For my final stop I noticed a sign pointing to the farmer’s market (open Tuesdays & Fridays through the fall season) so I headed toward Lake Cadillac and the Market Place at Cadillac Commons to try my luck there – more success! I was able to find some fresh produce from local farmers and handmade crafts and goodies from local artisans. Even though I covered only a couple of city blocks, it was a full and busy day of retail therapy. Just what I needed before a long winter!
